Accelerating the transformation of Aotearoa’s Energy Sector
Kākāriki is a New Zealand-based renewable energy developer focused on delivering large-scale wind, solar, and storage projects that help accelerate the country’s shift to a low-emissions economy. We’re here to support Aotearoa’s transition to clean, reliable, and regionally beneficial energy.
Our 600% Renewables vision imagines a country that generates six times more clean electricity than it consumes today. It’s an ambitious but achievable goal—one that enables deep decarbonisation, attracts new industries, and positions New Zealand as a leader in sustainable energy.
We take a regional approach to development, working with the natural strengths of each part of the country—be it wind, solar, or storage—to create projects that make sense locally and add value nationally. We're focused on projects that are technically strong, environmentally sound, and socially inclusive.
Behind Kākāriki is a team of experienced energy professionals who care deeply about impact. We bring global capability and local knowledge, and we’re motivated by a shared commitment to building projects that stand the test of time—for communities, for the climate, and for future generations.

Pacific Channel launches Fund V to accelerate New Zealand’s renewable energy future
Pacific Channel, a leading venture capital firm with two decades of experience backing science and deep-tech ventures, has launched Fund V to accelerate Kākāriki’s national portfolio of wind, solar, and storage projects. The fund provides seed capital to advance seven well-advanced projects and unlocks investment for a broader 10 GW pipeline across both islands.
New Zealand’s energy system must expand rapidly to meet rising demand from electrification, industrial decarbonisation, and the phase-out of fossil fuels. Kākāriki’s projects are strategically located near industrial centres and future high-demand users, ensuring maximum impact.
Backed by Energy Estate, Elemental Group, Regener8 Power, and Tāmata Hauhā, and supported by Pacific Channel’s 20-year track record in high-impact investment, Kākāriki is delivering nationally significant projects that combine scale, community partnership, and climate leadership.
Phase 1 includes 4 GW of wind and solar and 2.3 GW of storage capacity, positioning New Zealand for a sixfold increase in renewable generation and long-term economic, environmental, and community benefits.
Beyond these initial projects, Kākāriki’s broader pipeline represents one of the largest and most strategically positioned renewable energy development programs in Aotearoa. It ensures sustained growth, resilience, and impact well into the future—helping to secure New Zealand’s transition to a low-emissions economy and strengthening communities for generations to come.
